Malaysia is known for its wonderful food, great sceneries, and of course, the people and their patriotism. If you’re not leaving the motherland for the long weekend, here are some of the places you can visit LOCALLY to enjoy this special day!
1. Merdeka Square (Dataran Merdeka)
The Merdeka Parade is held here annually, attended by the Prime Minister himself along with other sovereigns. The Malaysian Flag will be raised, followed by several cultural and patriotic performances, the parade and floats, wrapped up with an exquisite display of fireworks by night.

2. Swiss Dream Circus
It's back for the 4th year in a row! This Merdeka Day, enjoy an extensive range of extraordinary talents ranging from flame throwing acts, knife throwing acts from Russia, trapeze acts, and many more from all around the world!

3. Floria Diraja Putrajaya
This annual flower show gets bigger and better every year featuring 61 showcase garden lots with 43 international participants from 23 countries.
An event sure to tickle your olfactory senses!

4. The Joke Factory presents Merdeka Baru
The people of Malaysia have gained their independence again after 60 years! But more so than that, comedians have gained newfound artistic freedom or more like, "Finally I can say this thing that I wanted to say 10 years ago!" Head over to the Joke Factory @ Publika for a good laugh this Merdeka Day!

5. Marini’s on 57 Merdeka Eve Celebration
For a fireworks show from the highest rooftop bar in the city, head over to Marini’s on 57 this Merdeka eve. There'll be a number of drink deals for the night, as well as their special Merdeka cocktail!
